A lot of people are using wordpress for a CMS these days (including me), but are we trying to force a square peg in a round hole? There are a lot of things wordpress is great for, but a full CMS? Maybe not.

@Collin: not all of us like the $250 price tag on commercial version or the limits of free/personal versions.. :)

I prefer to use my own cms-system. It's a lot easier and gives more freedom than a system made by somebody else.

Give ModX a try. It's pretty simple to use, it's opensource and it's free. The community is very great too. They also won the Most Promising Open Source CMS from http://www.packtpub.com/ and the next version (0.9.7) should be amazing... Visit http://modxcms.com/ for more informations.

Wordpress is definitely the best solution for small sites. There's no need to use a CMS just for posting news and few other functions.
