Validating your code has lots of 'sometimes' benefits: it will sometimes help you fix errors in your site, it will sometimes make it easier for a team to work together on a site (or for you or anyone to make future changes), it will sometimes help with browser compatibility and future-proofing (but IE will always throw a wrench in). It also has one negative: it takes resources. It's your responsibility to understand the benefits and costs and make an informed decision.
